he Casa de Trillo of Santa Mariña has statuary documents with the Monastery of Moraime that prove its existence from at least 1558,its nucleus being known as «Casal de Santamarina ».

This house is known for being the birthplace of a .gure of the History of Spain,Benito de Agar y Leis, christened in the Chapel of Santa Mariña de Prado on the 4th November 1722,who emigrated to Nuevo Reino de Granada (Colombia)as assistant of the chamber of the viceroy José Alfonso Pizarro. His son;more pop- ular than his father,Pedro Agar y Bustillo was a famous sailor and one of the protagonist of the Spanish and Galician politics in that period. He managed to .ll the of .ce of President of the Regency, joined the Armada in 1780,took part in several naval actions in the American continent, trained in the Academy of Navy Guards of Ferrol and was elected member of the Cortes de Cádiz (.rst Spanish parliament).

Nevertheless, the culminating moment of his career took place in 1810 when he was nominated as President of the Regency of Spain and Indies, responsibility that he exercised again three years later.Later, changes in the political events made him suffer exile in Betanzos;however,by reason due to the popular clamour that demanded the return to power of the worthy liberal leader,in 1820 he took up the political leadership and general captaincy of the kingdom of Galicia.

Nowadays, the Counts of Taboada are the representatives of the Agar of Santa Mariña lineage. In the city of A Coruña,still remains the street of Agar, which ends in the Real, near the building that Pedro Agar raised at the end of the 18th century.

From this Casa also came out a famous priest,José Díaz Arosa, known as «The Scholar of Villastose »,who besides being a cul- tured person,he was also visited by many faithful peo- ple so he would heal their ailments.
